Are You a Writer or a Slave?

One of the major reasons I became a freelance writer (and just because I spend 80 percent of my time writing pulp fiction doesn't mean I'm not a freelance writer at heart) is because I didn't want to be a slave to a big business boss, or to a business that I might have called my own, but left me no time to do the things in life that I loved. It makes me wonder why some writers suffer through a system of outdated hurry up and wait traditional publishing in which they have zero control when they don't have to.
